American Legion partners with VA Loma Linda on mental health outreach

Big Bear Grizzly - 10/17/2017

VA Loma Linda Health Care System and The American Legion, Post 584 in Big Bear Lake brings the VA Loma Linda mental health outreach opportunity to Big Bear Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at Post 584.

VA Loma Linda mental health and peer support specialists provide presentations on mental health and the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans (SAV) Act.

"The purpose of these mental health and Clay Hunt SAV outreach initiatives is to identify symptoms of mental illness/injury or substance use disorders, educate veterans that effective treatment is available and destigmatize and normalize mental health treatment," said Dr. Marion Sherman, chief of mental health at VA Loma Linda Health Care.

Representatives from the VA Loma Linda's women's health are also on hand to educate female veterans on health care programs and services available at VA.

Veterans and family members are encouraged to attend the outreach at the Big Bear American Legion event to learn more about mental health and suicide prevention services available through VA and other community agencies.

The American Legion Post 584 is at 41606 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear Lake.
