BRIEF: Man behaving in bizarre manner taken for evaluation

The Herald - 2/25/2018

Feb. 25--HERMITAGE -- A man who was seen hanging around several Hermitage businesses and acting bizarrely was taken to a local hospital on Monday for a mental health evaluation.

Hermitage police received more than a half dozen calls about the man who was wearing a bright pink hat and bright yellow sunglasses, police Chief Eric Jewell said.

Jewell said several businesses on East State Street and North Hermitage Road reported that the man was making bizarre, off-the-wall utterances on a number of different subjects.

"This is a mentally ill person that needs help," Jewell said. "So we got him the mental health care that he definitely needed."

Police contacted Mercer County Behavioral Health Services and he was committed for mental health testing, Jewell said, but the man was not arrested.

Jewell said that people did not understand that the man was mentally ill and may have been taken aback by him. The chief added that the man is not involved in sex trafficking, as some speculated on social media.
