The congregate meal program suggested donation is $2.25; Friday's café is $3.50-$4. The café meal is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday. Before taking lunch, inform servers of any food allergies.

Wednesday, July 4: Senior Center closed.

Thursday, July 5: Orange bourbon chicken with whipped potatoes, broccoli cheddar soup, Jell-O and a wheat roll.

Friday, July 6: American Chop Suey with fresh onions and peppers, mixed green salad, house dressing, fresh fruit and a wheat roll.

Monday, July 9: Sweet and sour pork over jasmine rice, Napa cabbage and shredded carrots with sesame oil, yogurt and juice and wheat bread.

Tuesday, July 10: Barbecue chicken with southern-style greens, potato leek soup, crackers, coconut cake and a biscuit.

Wednesday, July 11: Hot dog with mustard, relish, coleslaw, baked beans, chilled pineapples and a hot dog roll.

Upcoming programs

Patio Parties: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evenings beginning July 11. Cost: $2 per person. Regal Health Care will sponsor the first Patio Party of the 2018 Season. Menu will include chicken kabobs, sausage, peppers and onion, potato salad, a roll, hot fudge and butterscotch sundae with toppings, sangria and cold beer! Tickets must be purchased in advance for the kickoff and are on sale now. Jim Moses will be the entertainment, which will be sponsored by Brentwood Rehab & Health Care.

Bingo Bonanza: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.July 18, Brentwood, 56 Liberty St., Danvers. The event will include bingo with prizes as well as lunch for those attending. RSVP to the Senior Center at 978-762-0208.

Walking Club: The Walking Club will be meeting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. Participants walk on the path at the Senior Center/Highlands School. Each lap is between 1/4 and 1/3 mile. This year we are planning on field trips to other locations to walk as well. Those interested in joining the club can call Paula at 978-762-0208, ext. 104 and leave a name and phone number. All are welcome.

Ch allenges of Living Alone: CLA meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from 1 to 2 p.m. After retirement, or the loss of a spouse, establishing a new normal can take some creativity. Join on May 24 to hear about Danvers TRIAD, a safety initiative that focuses on empowering, educating and improving the safety, security and peace of mind of the senior population.

Shopping trips: The Danvers Senior Center holds shopping trips each weekday, leaving from the center at 12:30 p.m. and with a pickup at 2 p.m. Each senior is limited to two canvas bags. The schedule is:

- Mondays: Market Basket, Middleton.

- Tuesday: Stop and Shop (Routes 1 /62), Danvers.

- Wednesday: Market Basket, Danvers or Target at Liberty Tree Mall.

- Thursday: Shaw's in Peabody or North Shore Mall, Peabody.

- Fridays: Wal-Mart (Route 114), Danvers.

Senior medical rides: Senior medical rides to and from Danvers, Salem, Peabody and Beverly - 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

- 9:30-11:30 a.m. - lunch pickups to senior center

- 12:30 p.m. - shoppers from senior center

- 1 p.m. - senior center returns

- 2 p.m. - shoppers returned home

- 3 p.m. Thursdays - band returns

Medical transportation is available to Danvers residents ages 60 or older, and/or disabled Danvers residents. It is suggested that residents make transportation requests as early as possible for scheduling purposes. Due to high demand for booked appointments, the Center will get you to your appointment on time, however, you may need to wait for a return ride home. Individuals in wheelchairs can be accommodated.

The suggested transportation donation is $1.50 each way ($3 round trip) donation for appointments within Danvers and $2.50 each way ($5 round trip) donation for appointments to the adjoining communities of Peabody, Beverly and Salem. For ease of donations, the Center is offering seniors the option to purchase a donation punch card for $30. You may purchase a donation card at the front desk.

The Center is looking for drivers to join our Volunteer Transportation program. If you would be interested in helping please contact Cathy or Lorene. The Essex Technical and Agricultural High School is looking for some folks to monitor the students during the scheduled lunches. They have opportunities to help 10:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. The Danvers TRIAD Council is a partnership that includes the sheriff and district attorney of Essex County, the Danvers police and fire chiefs, the Council on Aging and supportive services, and seniors.

Blood Pressure Clinics: The Senior Center offers blood pressure clinics by appointment. Judith Ryan, RN, the center's new Public Health Nurse, will hold blood pressure clinics on Thursday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Call the center at 978-762-0208 to book your appointment.

Learn to coupon with Judi: Did you know that you can save 30-80 percent on your groceries? You can spend as little as a half hour of preparing in advance to save on your weekly grocery bill. Do you know how to "double up" on a sale? Do you know where to find coupons? Join Judi Martino on the first and third Monday of the month to learn how to organize coupons and share coupons ideas and information.

Coloring: A coloring class is held at the Senior Center on Mondays from 10-11 a.m. According to psychologists, coloring is the best alternative to meditation. Coloring allows you to unlock your creative potential. Perhaps more important, it helps relieve tension and anxiety. It also unlocks memories of childhood and simpler times. All supplies are provided.

Fitness and movement: Along with the Wednesday morning (10:30-11:30 a.m.) class, the Senior Center has added a Friday class for Fitness and Movement. Friday classes are from 1-2 p.m. If you have Parkinson's Disease, this exercise class is for you. Linda Hall and Marilyn Freeman of Parkinson's Fitness will lead you through a variety of customized exercised to improve balance and stability, agility, cognitive awareness, and strength-training by ability levels.

There is no charge for this as the Wednesday class is generously sponsored by Genesis Health Care at Hathorne Hill, and the Friday class is generously sponsored by Parkinson's Fitness.

Fitness Center: The Danvers Council on Aging has a Fitness Center for seniors. The fitness center offers a commercial grade treadmill, elliptical, recumbent bicycles and universal gym. The Fitness Center is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. All participants are required to sign a medical waiver prior to using equipment. Please go to the front desk to fill out a medical waiver.

Scrabble: 1 p.m. Mondays. Join to play Scrabble.

Mr. Fix It: Are you left in the dark because your lamp doesn't work? Is your toast not toasted? Bring any item which does not work properly to Mr. Fix-It and he will evaluate and repair if possible. Mr. Fix It will visit from 9 to 11:30 a.m.June 28.

Operation Troop Support: Please drop off items at the Danvers Council on Aging, 25 Stone St.

Medical equipment: The Senior Center is currently in need of bath benches. The center is not accepting any other items at this time. Items that are needed are updated monthly. These items are loaned to seniors at no charge to assist them in their recuperation. You may drop these off at the front desk at the Senior Center if you have any to donate.

Facebook: Seniors can get current updates on activities, classes, etc. just by liking the COA on Facebook. The Center update on a regular basis any changes/additions in their activities and on any programming. Search for: Danvers Council on Aging and Senior Center on Facebook, click on their page and then click "like" to receive announcements and updates.

Financial aid: Danvers veterans and widow(er)s may be entitled to reimbursement of medical expenses and possibly additional financial assistance through Massachusetts Chapter 115. Single parties qualify if their income is below $2,023 per month and their assets are less than $5,000. Couples may qualify if their combined income is below $2,743 per month and their assets are less than $9,800. Veterans must schedule their own appointment with the VA.

- Bedford: departs at 9:30 a.m. Monday-Friday Vittori at Rocci Post #56, 143 Brimbal Ave., Beverly. Call the Gloucester VA Clinic at 781-687-2000 or 800-838-6331 or 978-282-0676 with at least 24 hour notice to be added to the Gloucester-Bedford Shuttle with a Beverly pick up. This service is free.

- Jamaica Plain: departs at 8:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday and third Wednesday of each month at Torigian Community Life Center Peabody Council on Aging, 79 Central St., Peabody. Call 978-531-2254 to schedule a ride to Jamaica Plain. Cost: $5 per veteran plus one optional escort. This shuttle is sponsored by Lahey Clinic, Mayor Ed Bettencourt and the Community Life Center.

Veterans who need transportation to/from the Vittori Rocci Post #56 in Beverly or the Torigian Community Life Center should call Lorene at 978-762-0208 with at least 48 hours advance notice to schedule a ride with the Danvers Senior Center van.

Program offers free groceries: You may be eligible for a free bag of groceries each month through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. The Danvers Council on Aging works with the Greater Boston Food Bank to provide the CSFP once a month for individuals 60 years of age or older. Eligibility is determined by age, gross monthly income and household size. Verification of identity, age, residence and income will be required upon applying. Social Seniors Supportive Day Program: The Danvers Council on Aging continues to accept applications for participation in its Social Seniors Supportive Day Program. If you or someone you know may be interested please contact Judith Ryan at 978-762-0208, for more information. The Senior Center offers a free trial day and financial assistance may be available to Danvers residents 60 and older through the generosity of the Clara and Harvey Pillsbury Foundation.

Van transportation: Van transportation is offered from the Danvers Senior Center to and from medical centers and offices in Danvers, Salem, Peabody and Beverly. The rides are available from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Please call Lorene between 1 and 4 p.m. to book a ride at 978-762-0208.

Volunteers opportunities: The Center is currently in need of a volunteer dishwasher, if interested call Cathy. Approximately one hour a day after lunch. Do you enjoy vegetable gardening? The Center has a small kitchen garden that needs to be prepared and planted for the growing season. It is a raised bed and the Center plans to serve what is grown. The Center could use a few experienced gardeners to help plan and prepare. If interested, please call.
